The deposit gap
How it works
No queues, no paperwork, no landlord signature. Approval is built around your rental history and the deposit you're already getting back.
i.
Ten minutes, no paperwork. We check your rental history and verify your incoming deposit refund.
≈ 10 minutesii.
Funds disburse the same day — to you, your new landlord, or your agent. You choose.
Same dayiii.
Usually within 21 days. Self-liquidating. No surprises, no instalments stretching into next year.
7–21 daysWhy it's different
A deposit bridge isn't a personal loan. The collateral is the deposit you're already getting back — so we can price it like it.
Manifesto
I've rented in Cape Town for thirteen years. I've moved nine times. Every move, the same maths: the new deposit lands on a Tuesday and the old one comes back, if it comes back, sometime after the next full moon.
Every move, I've watched friends borrow from family, max out a credit card, or take a personal loan priced for someone in trouble — when they weren't in trouble. They were renting.
Most renters don't know they have rights. That a deposit must sit in an interest-bearing account. That without an ingoing inspection, a landlord can't claim damages. That seven days is the legal cap, not a polite suggestion. We'll keep saying it until renting stops feeling like a favour.
Cosign exists because we've lived this. And we're done watching renters scramble.
Cosign knows
A short series on tenant rights, written plainly. We'll publish a new one every fortnight — the law is on your side more often than it lets on.
Without an ingoing inspection, your landlord legally can't claim damages from your deposit.

We'd rather under-promise here than write a clever line you'll resent later.
How fast is "same day"?
If you apply before 2pm on a working day and your verification clears, funds land in your account, your new landlord's, or your agent's by close of business. Late afternoons typically land first thing the next morning.
What does it cost?
Less than a personal loan, because the loan is secured by your incoming deposit. Specific rates and fees will be published at launch — we'll show every number on this page before you sign anything.
What if my old landlord doesn't return the deposit?
We pursue the refund on your behalf using the legal assignment you signed at approval. If the refund is delayed, we don't punish you for it — we extend the term. If the landlord is in the wrong, we help you push back.
Do I need my landlord to sign up?
No. Cosign is for tenants only. Your old landlord doesn't need to know we exist; your new landlord just receives the deposit like they would from anyone.
Is Cosign a bank?
No. We partner with a regulated South African lender to provide the capital. Cosign is the product, the underwriting, and the renter's advocate — the lender holds the licence.
Is Cosign registered?
Our NCR (National Credit Regulator) registration is in progress. We'll publish the registration number on the homepage the day it lands.
When does Cosign launch?
We're aiming for late Q3 2026. Waitlist members get first access, plus a fee waiver on their first bridge.
Where is Cosign available?
Cape Town and Johannesburg first. Pretoria, Durban and Stellenbosch follow within six months of launch — waitlist members in those cities help us prioritise.

Pre-launch members get first access, a fee waiver on their first bridge, and the rights guide we're writing for renters in Cape Town and Joburg.
